Artist Imagines Darkwing Crew as Humans July 13, 2011

Imagine if St. Canard weren’t populated with ducks and dogs and all manner of animals. What if Darkwing Duck was people? An artist named E.D. Thweatt asked himself this question, and designed human versions of the Mallards and Muddlefoots, and several other Disney Afternoon characters.
Pretty keen! I especially like how Launchpad and Gosalyn turned out. I gotta say, Drake/Darkwing doesn’t look quite right to me. His design doesn’t seem to preserve the same character traits and expressiveness as many of the others do. Still, I think this is a bang-up job.
You can see more (including takes on Scrooge McDuck, Gadget Hackwrench, and Baloo) at Comics Alliance or the artist’s DeviantArt account.

As a follow-up to Joanne Ryan’s nifty acoustic cover, here’s another guitar cover. This one’s all electric (with a pretty sweet, short guitar solo) and by San Francisco musician Rocky Leon. He flubs a couple of the lyrics, but that’s okay. This rocks pretty hard.

Most covers of the Darkwing theme on YouTube are guitar solos or play-alongs without lyrics, often in poor quality. Here’s something a little different: an acoustic, vocal cover of the Darkwing Duck theme song I could imagine being played in a coffee house somewhere. The performer, Joanne Ryan, has quite a bit of talent, a good ear for adaptation, and a very good, soulful voice.

A delightfully unusual piece of fan art by Mike Mitchell. See the full-sized original at his Tumblr. It strikes me as both adorable and a little scary.
