Boom! Prints Classic D.W. September 18, 2010Posted by John D. Moore in Comics News.
These Boom! folks sure seem to love Darkwing Duck. And us. And I’m sure that’s at least partly because we’re loving them so much. There’s no release date (and no official press as far as I can tell) yet, but it looks like we can soon be expecting a collection of the nineties Darkwing Duck comics, available for the first time in well over a decade. Boom! Studios has listed Darkwing Duck Classics as a future, 160-page volume. It looks like it’ll contain several comic stories, since it lists several authors and artists.
Since John Blair Moore (no relation, I assure you) is credited, it seems likely that his 4-issue Disney Comics “Darkly Dawns the Duck” (very direct) adaptation will be included. The cover art seems to be borrowed from the 48-page Cartoon Tales adaptation of “Just Us Justice Ducks.” Darkwing Duck comics appeared in a variety of places, from the aforementioned “Dawns” limited series, to two Cartoon Tales books, to recurring features in Disney Adventures magazine, to stories in the short-lived Disney Afternoon comic book published by Marvel. I wonder if there are any rights issues that would tie up the Marvel comics.
The cover art indicates that this is “volume one.” Of course, since this doesn’t seem to even have been officially announced, most everything is speculative. But with any luck, every panel of Darkwing’s comic incarnations should hopefully be available at your local comic shop before too long.
Personally, I’m hoping for a print of “Double-Scoop Double Take” (starring Darkwing and Negaduck) from Disney Adventures.
Update 9/19/2010: Boom! has pulled the listing off its website. I expect we’ll be seeing it again soon. Hope they’re not too mad about the leak.
