Darkly Dawns the Showstopper November 2, 2010

Disney Afternoon creative Jymn Magon only worked on Darkwing Duck’s “pilot movie” Darkly Dawns the Duck.  Yet over at his blog, he has recently posted a juicy bit of Darkwing Duck trivia that’s news to me.  Quoth Magon

Now a little “Darkwing Duck” action.  I wasn’t really involved in this series except for the pilot episodes.  This was Tad Stones’ baby.  (Not many people know this, but the pilot movie was once planned as a musical.  Two of the songwriters considered:  Jerry Herman of “La Cage aux Folles” fame and Barry Manilow.  The mind boggles.)

Now that would’ve been something!  Obviously, this idea didn’t make it too far into production.  Still, imagine the terror-that-flaps crooning out original Manilow tunes.

I’m not too surprised, considering how many songs were in the Talespin pilot.
